Product Description
Most of us know what it feels like to fall under the spell of food — when one slice of pizza turns into half a pie, or a handful of chips leads to an empty bag. But it’s harder to understand why we can’t seem to stop eating — even when we know better. When we want so badly to say “no,” why do we continue to reach for food?

Dr. David Kessler, the dynamic former FDA commissioner who reinvented the food label and tackled the tobacco industry, cracks the code of overeating by explaining how our bodies and minds are changed when we consume foods that contain sugar, fat, and salt. Food manufacturers create products by manipulating these ingredients to stimulate our appetites, setting in motion a cycle of desire and consumption that ends with a nation of overeaters. The End of Overeating explains for the first time why it is exceptionally difficult to resist certain foods and why it’s so easy to overindulge.

Dr. Kessler presents groundbreaking research, along with what is sure to be a controversial view inside the industry that continues to feed a our nation — from popular brand manufacturers to advertisers, chain restaurants, and fast food franchises. Dr. Kessler’s cutting-edge investigation offers new insights and useful tools to help us find a solution. There has never been a more thorough, compelling, or in-depth analysis of why we eat the way we do.

What a complete fiction, as if this idiot thinks making food taste good is a plot. Of the thousands of book’s written about weight loss, this has to be the worst. What a joke!

What this book fails to recognize is that not everyone who is overweight is an overeater.

    From his interview:

“At times I couldn’t decide whether you felt that the overweight were victims or undisciplined. Which is it?” Kessler replies:

The answer is probably neither. Nobody has explained to people what is going on with them, or given them the tools to cool stimuli. Yes, you are bombarded throughout the day. You respond. And that creates torment for people. But just because we are activated and stimulated doesn’t mean that that there aren’t things we can do. Yes, their brains are being hijacked. But once we understand what is going on, we can change.

Not to mention the fact that 100+ years ago, people ate whatever they want because resources were limited. We have not yet evolved to keep in line with the fact that we now have access to food 24/7 in any quantity we want, here in America. That’s the problem. We all need to readjust. It’s not about being overweight and ignorant, it’s about a need for evolution to catch up with our lifestyle change. Unfortunately, this book ignores all that and just assumes people who overeat are weak or ignorant.

If you really want to understand why people over eat just try to go on a high fat low carb diet and you’ll find out QUICK! It’s the carbs folks. This doc like most other docs that are schleping books out now don’t understand, or simply ignore the fact that carbs are what makes you fat.

This book can be summarized in one sentence: Try to stay away from foods high in fat, sugar and salt.

Trouble with this is that he has got this even wrong. The fat isn’t what is going to kill you – it’s the sugar. SUGAR or CARBOHYDRATES are the evil part of the diet. Stay away from them and you won’t feel the hunger panges. No you won’t and you’ll loose weight quick. Once you realize this your life will be improved dramaticall. Read Good Calories Bad Caloreis by Gary Taubes or Protein Power by Dr. Eades.

You can analyze America’s obesity epidemic every which way from Sunday, but the fact is you just have to get off your fat butt and MOVE! In 1972 I got to my highest weight of 160. After decades of dieting I decided to give up and quit dieting and eat myself to death, anything I wanted, no forbidden foods. Well, I lost5 lbs the first week because I was not obsessing over what I couldn’t have. I allowed myself ice cream which gave me phenomenal energy for some reason and curbed hunger for hours. Same for caffiene. And I wasn’t denying myself desserts and other forbidden foods. I never went vegan either. A Big Mac will keep you going all day. From there on the weight melted off and 6 mos later I was at 115. I exercised by very long walks (take yourself out one hour and back one hour) not eating much after 3PM (dinner at 3 or 4PM tops.) I am still at 120 lbs after all those years because I WORK at it.

We have a huge problem with compulsion control in this nation now. No boundaries, if it feels good do it. Eat out of boredom, stress, or it just tastes good an I want it now! Being thin takes sacrifice, but it’s worth it. As Steve tyler the rocker said, “There’s no food that tastes as good as skinny feels!” How true, I picked up a stack of magazines of the weight I had lost (45 lbs) and could barely carry it around the room. Imagine having 100-500 lbs packed on your bones! Look at your skinny little feet. Ma Nature would have given us feet the size of elephants if she’d meant for us to be such huge porkers. I’ve had a hysterectomy, thyroidectomy, am 64 years old and I’m thin. Menopause, low thyroid (fixed with just a pill a day), old age is no excuse for being fat.

To anyone trying to diet. Give up dieting! MOVE! Starvation will cause your metabolism to slow down, exercise heats up your metabolism. Your heart and all other organs will thank you! And so will the healthcare system once all you grossly obese people start to pay the piper for all the destruction wrought on your bodies!

This book is incredibly repititous. Most of its messages are those one reads in every nutrition/diet book in the world.

Scan this book while standing in the bookstore to see if any chapter appeals to you. Don’t buy it, take it home and find that there is really nothing new.
